Phil has also been involved in three consecutive and successful startups. He co-founded and served as the Chief Information Security Officer for SecureIT, which he sold to VeriSign for $70M shortly after they went IPO and became VeriSign's first Chief Information Security Officer. He was also an early foundation member of Internet Devices who was acquired by Alcatel for $181M, allowing Phil to participate in the Alcatel worldwide CTO taskforce. He was the Chief Security Architect for Scientific Atlanta where he was responsible for providing tactical and strategic leadership to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Scientific Atlanta's information systems and data assets. Phil was instrumental in evolving Scientific Atlanta Enterprise Information Protection to become externally recognized as a world class security organization. Cisco Systems acquired Scientific Atlanta for $6.9B. Phil has represented General Electric, VeriSign, Alcatel, and Scientific Atlanta in their respective Corporate Security Councils and resides on Dell’s Global Privacy Steering Committee, Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) Task Force, IT GIDS Risk Governance Committee, Compliance Leadership Forum, Information Governance Committee, and the Dell Leadership program. Phil is a co-founder and Board Member of the Southeast CSO Security Council, is a founding member of the Cloud Security Alliance, and he has served on the boards of numerous technology companies. He has also served six times as a judge for the Executive Alliance's Information Security Executive (ISE) of the Year Awards. He participates in the Worldwide Executive Council's Goldman Sachs CISO Council and is a member of SecureWorld Expo's Executive Steering Council. Phil holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has attended Georgia State University for an MBA in computer information systems. He is a member of Pi Tau Sigma (a national honorary mechanical engineering society), has been awarded the Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) in Enterprise Security, is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and is a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). |

Phil is responsible for Dell’s Global Information Security Assurance and Consulting teams which manage risk by providing guidance and awareness on the security posture of the entire company. During this time, Dell has been awarded the 2008 Microsoft CSO Summit Excellence in Data Protection Award and nominated for the 2008 Executive Alliance Information Security Project of the Year Award for North America for the Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) at Dell program. Phil won the 2009 Information Security Executive of the Year Central Award, was nominated for the 2008 Information Security Executive of the Year National Award, and was nominated for the 2007 and 2008 CSO Compass Award.
